Holly McCain, local poet, author

On January 2, 1996, J. Holly McCain lost her younger brother, Don, to AIDS. STAR is her emotional and touching response to this tragedy. Each poem in this collection takes us closer to McCain's feelings of grief, pain, and anger, and, eventually, peace. And each poem takes us closer to Don, the baby brother with blond hair and a mischievous grin, whose last words to his sister were, "Think of the living and not the dead." Though the poems in STAR focus on the life and death of Don, McCain's poetry speaks to everyone who has ever lost a loved one.

Brown Eyes, her 2007 work about her dog Shadow, and Puppy Love, her newest work, are fun poetry books.  McCain shows the reader love, caring, and life through the eyes of a puppy.  Shadow and her pals show the reader that being different makes friendship even better!  Fun family reads for all households!

McCain was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Sheffield Lake. McCain raised her only daughter, Elizabeth, in Lorain. She wrote for both her high school and college newspapers. She graduated from Lorain Community College in 1991. She now resides in North Ridgeville.

Dale Sheffield, Wellington Enterprise reporter, poet, author

Dale Sheffield has been the reporter and photographer for The Wellington Enterprise since 2008 and is responsible for coverage of local politics, school activities, and community events. In addition to an established career in the writing field, Dale also enjoys writing as a hobby. She has been published in several poetry magazines, including Abalone Moon, Word for Word, The Deepcreek Review, and Bella Poetry Journal. She has competed in a challenge to write a novel in 30 days (NaNoWriMo) three times, and successfully completed the endeavor in 2009. Dale has also assisted a New York Times freelance columnist as an editorial consultant.

Her other interests include running, art journaling, reading, cooking, attending the theater, and medieval reenactment. A graduate of Wellington High School, Dale also earned a diploma from Ohio Business College and is currently pursuing a degree in communications from Axia College.
